Toolkit for interacting with and testing local web applications using Playwright. Supports verifying frontend functionality, debugging UI behavior, capturing browser screenshots, and viewing browser logs.

Webapp Testing, published by anthropics in the skills repository under Apache-2.0, is a toolkit for testing local web applications with native Python Playwright scripts. It gives the agent a decision tree: for static HTML, read the file to find selectors; for a dynamic app, start the server with the bundled with_server.py helper (which manages one or several servers, such as a backend and frontend) or, if it is already running, follow reconnaissance-then-action: navigate, wait for networkidle, take a screenshot or inspect the DOM, identify selectors and then act.

It stresses waiting for networkidle before inspecting dynamic pages, launching Chromium headless, closing the browser, using descriptive selectors and running helper scripts with --help rather than reading their source. Example scripts show element discovery, file:// automation of static HTML and capturing console logs. Use it to verify frontend behaviour, debug UI issues, capture screenshots or read browser logs. It requires Python and Playwright, and it drives your local app rather than managing a hosted test suite.

This is mainly for coding agents like Claude Code. BusinessMCP imports skills as instructions only, so the bundled helper scripts do not run there.

What you can do with it

  • Start frontend and backend servers and run a Playwright check
  • Screenshot a page after networkidle to debug a UI bug
  • Discover buttons, links and inputs before scripting actions
  • Capture browser console logs during an automated run

Frequently asked questions

How do I install Webapp Testing?

Run `npx skills add anthropics/skills --skill webapp-testing` to add it to a Claude Code or other skills-compatible agent. You can also import it from the BusinessMCP dashboard, where it becomes a playbook in your workspace.

What does with_server.py do?

It manages server lifecycle for the test run, starting one or more servers on given ports and then running your Playwright automation script.

Why wait for networkidle?

The skill calls it critical on dynamic apps: inspecting the DOM before JavaScript has finished executing gives an incomplete picture and wrong selectors.
