Master end-to-end testing with Playwright and Cypress to build reliable test suites that catch bugs, improve confidence, and enable fast deployment.

E2E Testing Patterns, published by wshobson in the agents repository under MIT, teaches an agent to build reliable end-to-end test suites with Playwright and Cypress. It sets scope first: test critical journeys such as login, checkout and signup, complex interactions, cross-browser behaviour and auth flows, and leave unit logic, API contracts and edge cases to faster test layers, following the testing pyramid. Best practices include data-testid or role-based selectors instead of CSS classes, independent and deterministic tests, per-test data cleanup, page objects and assertions on user-visible behaviour.

A reference file gives worked patterns: Playwright configuration, the page object model, fixtures for test data, waiting strategies, network mocking and interception; Cypress custom commands and intercepts; and advanced patterns for visual regression, parallel sharding and accessibility testing. Common pitfalls covered are flaky fixed timeouts, slow unmocked tests, over-testing edge cases and coupled tests. Use it when implementing E2E automation, debugging flaky tests or setting up CI pipelines. It is guidance and patterns, not a test runner.

This is mainly a skill for coding agents like Claude Code; it has no particular role in BusinessMCP's business-data workflows.

What you can do with it

  • Write a Playwright page object for a checkout flow
  • Replace fixed timeouts with proper waits to cut flakiness
  • Mock external APIs in Cypress with intercepts
  • Shard an E2E suite to run in parallel in CI

Frequently asked questions

How do I install E2E Testing Patterns?

Run `npx skills add wshobson/agents --skill e2e-testing-patterns` to add it to a Claude Code or other skills-compatible agent. You can also import it from the BusinessMCP dashboard, where it becomes a playbook in your workspace.

What should not be tested end-to-end?

Unit-level logic, API contracts, edge cases and internal implementation details; the skill says to cover those with unit and integration tests.

Which selectors does it recommend?

data-testid or data-cy attributes and role or label queries, rather than CSS classes or DOM structure.
