Playwright CLI

Automate browser interactions, test web pages and work with Playwright tests.
Playwright CLI, published by microsoft in the playwright-cli repository under Apache-2.0, teaches an agent to drive a browser through the playwright-cli command. The agent opens a browser, navigates, takes a snapshot and then interacts with elements by the refs in that snapshot: click, type, fill (optionally submitting), drag, drop files, hover, select, check and upload. Further commands cover navigation, keyboard and mouse, saving pages, tabs, cookies and local and session storage, device emulation, network control, DevTools features such as recording actions as Playwright code, generating locators and highlights, and calling WebMCP tools a page registers.
Reference files go deeper on session management, storage state, request mocking, tracing, video recording, running code, generating tests and working with Playwright test suites. Use it for browser automation, checking web pages or writing Playwright tests from real interactions. The skill restricts itself to playwright-cli, npx and npm commands, and it favours snapshots over screenshots for reading a page.
This is mainly for coding agents like Claude Code that can run shell commands; BusinessMCP can store it as a playbook, but the CLI itself runs on your machine, not in the workspace.
What you can do with it
- Log in to a site and walk a flow using snapshot element refs
- Record browser actions and print them as Playwright code
- Mock network requests while checking a page's behaviour
- Save storage state to reuse an authenticated session
Run it on your business data
Imported into BusinessMCP, Playwright CLI becomes a playbook your AI business analyst applies to your product analytics and real user journeys.

Frequently asked questions
How do I install Playwright CLI?
Run `npx skills add microsoft/playwright-cli --skill playwright-cli` to add it to a Claude Code or other skills-compatible agent. You can also import it from the BusinessMCP dashboard, where it becomes a playbook in your workspace.
How does the agent pick elements to click?
It takes a snapshot of the page and uses the element refs it returns, such as e15, in commands like click, fill and hover.
Can it help write Playwright tests?
Yes. It can record actions as Playwright code, generate locators, and its references cover test generation and working with Playwright test suites.
