The VWO alternative that finds the test and writes the variant

Friction in your heatmaps becomes a proposed A/B test with a hypothesis, then a GitHub pull request — measured honestly, on the $199 Scale plan.

The full picture

VWO is the best-known self-serve experimentation suite: a visual editor, multivariate and split-URL tests, Bayesian SmartStats, and heatmaps, recordings and surveys in its Insights module. Its Starter plan is free up to 50,000 monthly tested visitors (vwo.com, checked September 2026). Above that the page shows Growth, Pro and Enterprise tiers with no prices — published 2026 teardowns put Growth at roughly $314 per month billed annually at the lowest MTU band, Pro at $531–$972, Enterprise from about $1,265, and Vendr reports a median annual contract of $16,660.

BusinessMCP attacks the problem from the other end. Instead of an editor waiting for you to have an idea, a deterministic CRO engine reads your heatmaps and session replays for eight named failure modes, ranks them by ICE, proposes a test with a written hypothesis, and the AI opens a GitHub pull request implementing variant B. You review the diff, merge, and the split test runs flicker-free. It is part of the $199 Scale plan alongside analytics, session replay, CRM and the AI business analyst — not a separate experimentation bill.

VWO merged with AB Tasty in January 2026 under Everstone Capital. Existing contracts are honoured, but if you are choosing now, expect the combined company’s packaging and renewal pricing to move.

Why teams switch

The test finds you

VWO gives you a canvas and waits. BusinessMCP scores every page against eight failure modes — dead clicks, rage clicks, a buried CTA, deep-scroll-but-no-conversion, message mismatch, form abandon, a mobile gap, attention leaks — with real numbers from your own traffic, and ranks the candidates by impact, confidence and ease.

Somebody builds the variant

The AI writes variant B as a pull request against your repo — a CSS-only change gated on the visitor’s assigned arm, never a commit to main. Your engineer reviews a diff instead of a marketer fighting a visual editor over a React component that re-renders it away.

One bill, one script

The tracking snippet that runs analytics and session replay is the same one that runs the test, and the $199 Scale plan includes all of it. VWO’s heatmaps and recordings are a separate Insights module, and its paid experimentation tiers are quoted per MTU on annual terms.

A winner is never called early

Results stay hidden behind a readiness gate — 300 visitors and 25 conversions per arm and 14 full days — so nobody peeks at day three and ships a false positive. The confidence column literally does not render until the test is readable.

Where BusinessMCP is NOT the right choice

An alternatives page you can trust has to cut both ways. Honestly:

  • There is no visual or WYSIWYG editor. VWO, Optimizely, AB Tasty, Convert and Kameleoon all let a marketer click a headline and retype it; in BusinessMCP every variant is code in a pull request, so someone on your side has to be comfortable reviewing a diff.
  • It needs a codebase on GitHub and a human to review and merge the PR. A site on a hosted builder with no repository (a Webflow, Wix or Squarespace site, a Shopify theme nobody keeps in git) cannot run our split tests at all.
  • We only split-test web pages. There is no multivariate testing, no personalization engine, no server-side SDKs for mobile or backend experiments, and no feature flags — if you need any of those, the tools on this page are the right category and we are not.
  • A/B testing sits on the Scale plan at $199/mo. VWO’s free Starter tier, Kameleoon’s 30-day trial and Convert’s 15-day trial all cost less to start, and the $199 buys you the whole platform whether or not you use the rest of it.
  • Our stats module is deliberately simple: a two-proportion z-test behind a fixed minimum-sample-and-14-day guard. Optimizely’s sequential Stats Engine and the Bayesian engines in VWO and AB Tasty let a statistically literate team stop early on purpose; ours will not let you.

Frequently asked questions

Is BusinessMCP a full replacement for VWO?

For the A/B split test on a web page, yes — and it adds the part VWO does not do, finding the test from your friction data and writing the variant. It is not a replacement for VWO’s visual editor, multivariate testing, split-URL tests, surveys or FullStack server-side experiments.

Do I need a developer?

You need someone who can review and merge a pull request. The AI writes the variant; a human approves it. That is deliberate — the PR review is the approval gate, so nothing changes on your site that a person did not look at.

How does BusinessMCP avoid flicker?

The PR adds a tiny inline bootstrap to the page head that assigns the visitor to an arm and stamps the document before first paint, and the variant is CSS keyed on that stamp. Assignment is a pure function of the visitor id, so the same person always sees the same arm.

When does BusinessMCP declare a winner?

Only after every arm has at least 300 visitors and 25 conversions and the test has run 14 days — two full weekly cycles. The unit of analysis is the visitor, not the session, so one returning visitor cannot swing an arm.

Is VWO’s free plan still available?

vwo.com still offers a free Starter plan up to 50,000 monthly tested visitors as of September 2026, but several 2026 teardowns report it being withdrawn for new accounts in favour of a 30-day trial. Check the current page before you plan around it.

How to migrate

  1. 1

Install the BusinessMCP snippet alongside VWO SmartCode; they do not conflict, and you want two weeks of heatmap and replay data before the engine has anything to propose.

  2. 2

Connect GitHub on the Connections page and pick the repository and framework for your marketing site.

  3. 3

Let running VWO tests finish — mixing two assignment systems on one page mixes two populations into one number.

  4. 4

Open Insights → Experiments, pick a proposed test, edit the hypothesis and success goal, and review the PR the AI opens.
