BusinessMCP

IP to company API

Resolve an IP address to the company, ISP, cloud or VPN behind it, from our own nightly IP graph rather than a resold feed.

1,000 free credits every month · REST and MCP

What it’s for

Name a B2B visitor

Resolve the IP of an anonymous visitor to a company name and domain when the network belongs to one.

Filter bot and cloud traffic

Flag hosting, CDN-edge and VPN ranges so a datacenter hit is never counted as a prospect.

Score a signup

Know whether a form was submitted from an office network, a home ISP line or a cloud server.

Endpoints

Each is a REST route and an MCP tool with the same name, input and price. Examples use the key from the BUSINESSMCP_API_KEY environment variable.

What it does not do

  • Most people now browse from home ISP and mobile lines, which name no company. Those return non_business or unidentified, and that is the correct answer rather than a miss.
  • Secure-egress and SASE ranges are flagged, not attributed: the address belongs to that vendor’s customers, so we decline to name one.
  • Trust company.domain only when the verdict is company. We do not publish a match rate here, because it depends entirely on whose traffic you send.
  • The graph is rebuilt nightly, so a range that changed hands today can be a day behind.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is an IP to company API on real website traffic?

It depends on whose traffic you send. Office networks resolve well; home broadband and mobile lines, which carry most browsing today, name no company at all. Any vendor that names a company for nearly every IP is naming the ISP or guessing. Test on a sample of your own logs and count the answers you would actually act on.

What does the verdict field mean?

company means the evidence says the network is that company’s own, and only then is company.domain set. non_business covers ISPs, mobile carriers, cloud hosts and VPNs. unidentified means we could not tell. Treat anything other than company as unknown rather than as a lead.

Where does the IP data come from?

From an IP graph we build every night from public registry, routing and DNS data, plus confirmations from our own product. It is not a resold feed, so there is no third party in the path of your lookups.

Can I resolve IPs in bulk?

Yes. ip_bulk (POST /api/hub/v1/ip/bulk) takes up to 100 IPs per call and returns the same fields as a single lookup for each.

Is IP to company lookup GDPR compliant?

Naming the organisation that operates a network is business information. We never identify a person from an IP, and IPs from consumer lines return no company. How you use the result on your own site is still your responsibility.
