The full picture

Plausible is the tool that proved a web-analytics dashboard could be one page, cookieless and open source. It starts at $9 a month for 10,000 pageviews, has a 30-day trial with no card, gives two months free on annual billing, and the Community Edition can be self-hosted for nothing. If pageviews, referrers and goals are all you need, it is hard to beat.

BusinessMCP shares the same posture — first-party, cookieless, no banner required from us — and then keeps going: it resolves the company behind anonymous B2B visits, computes six attribution models over your whole session history, stitches identified people into a CRM, and puts an AI business analyst (and your own Claude or ChatGPT, over MCP) on top. The free plan covers 300 unique visitors a month.

Why teams switch

Plausible counts visits; BusinessMCP names the account

Plausible deliberately stores no company or person data. BusinessMCP resolves the company behind anonymous B2B traffic from its own IP graph on Starter ($19/mo), roughly 20–35% of B2B visits like every vendor, and drops the account into a pipeline you can act on.

Attribution beyond last touch

Plausible reports the referrer and UTM of a session. BusinessMCP credits first, last, last non-direct, linear, U-shaped and time-decay models across every session a person had, unified across devices once they identify.

An analyst, not only a dashboard

Plausible has no AI layer and no MCP server. BusinessMCP ships an AI business analyst with your analytics, CRM, Stripe revenue and connected tools in context, and the same data is one Bearer key away from Claude or ChatGPT. 30 runs a month are free.

One script for analytics, heatmaps and replay

Plausible is analytics only. On Growth ($79/mo) the same BusinessMCP snippet records click and scroll heatmaps and session replays, so the visit you saw in the funnel is a recording you can watch.

Where BusinessMCP is NOT the right choice

An alternatives page you can trust has to cut both ways. Honestly:

  • Plausible has a public shareable stats page and a one-page dashboard that a non-analyst reads in ten seconds; BusinessMCP is a bigger product with more surface to learn, and there is no public stats page.
  • BusinessMCP is not open source and cannot be self-hosted. Matomo and Umami can run entirely on your own server for a $0 licence, which is the right answer for a strict data-residency policy or a zero-vendor stack.
  • Raw events are retained for up to 13 months (sessions and daily rollups are kept for the life of the account). Plausible advertises three-to-five-year retention on paid plans and a self-hosted Matomo keeps whatever you keep.
  • Product-analytics features — feature flags, user-cohort funnels, experiments on app events, error tracking — belong to PostHog or Mixpanel. BusinessMCP measures websites and the business behind them, not in-app product usage.

Frequently asked questions

Is BusinessMCP as privacy-friendly as Plausible?

On the visitor side, yes: cookieless, first-party, no personal profile, no banner required from us. The difference is at the company level — BusinessMCP resolves the organisation behind a B2B visit from IP data under legitimate interest, which Plausible does not attempt. Person-level identification is off by default and only possible through your own US-only vendor key.

Which is cheaper, Plausible or BusinessMCP?

For pure analytics, Plausible: $9 a month for 10k pageviews against a BusinessMCP free plan capped at 300 unique visitors and a $19 Starter plan. If you would otherwise buy a visitor-identification tool, an attribution tool or a CRM alongside Plausible, BusinessMCP is usually cheaper as a bundle.

Can I self-host BusinessMCP like Plausible Community Edition?

No. BusinessMCP is hosted only. If self-hosting is a requirement, Plausible CE, Umami or Matomo are the honest recommendations.

Does BusinessMCP have a public stats page?

No. Plausible and Fathom both offer a public or password-protected shared dashboard; BusinessMCP shares through team seats, CSV export, the API and the MCP endpoint instead.

How to migrate

  1. 1

Run both snippets for two weeks — Plausible and BusinessMCP each add one script tag and do not interfere.

  2. 2

Recreate Plausible goals as BusinessMCP goals with a lead or conversion role; custom-event names can stay identical.

  3. 3

Connect Stripe so revenue rides the same sessions, and turn on company identification on Starter to see which accounts your traffic was.

  4. 4

Export your Plausible CSVs for the archive; BusinessMCP keeps sessions for the life of the account, from the day it is installed.
