The full picture

Fathom Analytics is one of the original privacy-first analytics tools: no cookies, no consent banner, EU visitor data processed in the EU, a public or password-protected shareable dashboard, and every feature on every plan. Pricing is by pageviews only — $15 a month for 100,000, $60 for a million, $200 for ten million, $470 for 25 million — with at least 50 sites on every plan, a 7-day trial and two months free on annual billing.

BusinessMCP takes the same privacy stance — first-party, cookieless, no banner required from us — and answers the questions a pageview dashboard cannot: which companies were on the pricing page, which touchpoints deserve credit under six attribution models, what a visitor did in a session recording, and what all of it means, asked in plain English of an AI business analyst or of your own Claude or ChatGPT over MCP. The free plan covers 300 unique visitors a month.

Why teams switch

From “how many” to “who”

Fathom deliberately stores no company data. BusinessMCP resolves the company behind anonymous B2B visits from its own IP graph on Starter ($19/mo) — roughly 20–35% of B2B traffic, as with every vendor — and lands it in a CRM pipeline with the person once they identify.

Attribution you can argue with

Fathom shows referrers and UTMs per session. BusinessMCP computes first, last, last non-direct, linear, U-shaped and time-decay credit across a person’s whole history and lets you compare all six on one table, with ad spend joined by campaign.

An analyst and an MCP endpoint

Fathom has no AI layer and no MCP server. BusinessMCP ships an AI business analyst with your analytics, CRM, revenue and connected tools in context, and exposes the same data to Claude or ChatGPT through one Bearer key. 30 runs a month are free.

Recordings from the same script

Fathom is analytics only. On Growth ($79/mo) BusinessMCP adds click and scroll heatmaps and rrweb session replay from the same snippet, with rage-click and dead-click detection.

Where BusinessMCP is NOT the right choice

An alternatives page you can trust has to cut both ways. Honestly:

  • Fathom includes at least 50 sites on its $15 plan and a public shareable dashboard; BusinessMCP prices per workspace and has no public stats page, so an agency or a portfolio of small sites is cheaper on Fathom.
  • BusinessMCP is not open source and cannot be self-hosted. Matomo and Umami can run entirely on your own server for a $0 licence, which is the right answer for a strict data-residency policy or a zero-vendor stack.
  • Raw events are retained for up to 13 months (sessions and daily rollups are kept for the life of the account). Plausible advertises three-to-five-year retention on paid plans and a self-hosted Matomo keeps whatever you keep.
  • Product-analytics features — feature flags, user-cohort funnels, experiments on app events, error tracking — belong to PostHog or Mixpanel. BusinessMCP measures websites and the business behind them, not in-app product usage.

Frequently asked questions

Is BusinessMCP cookieless like Fathom?

Yes. The tracker sets no cookie, builds no personal profile, and can be served from your own subdomain. Where BusinessMCP differs is company-level identification of B2B visits under legitimate interest, which Fathom does not attempt.

How does pricing compare?

Fathom is $15 a month for 100,000 pageviews and scales by volume up to $470 for 25 million. BusinessMCP is free to 300 unique visitors, then $19 (1k visitors), $79 (3k), $199 (10k) and $499 (50k). For a pure analytics dashboard on a busy site Fathom is cheaper; for analytics plus identification, attribution and CRM the bundle usually favours BusinessMCP.

Does BusinessMCP process EU data in the EU like Fathom?

BusinessMCP’s raw analytics store runs in a European (UK) region and the platform operates as a processor under a DPA, with the sub-processor register published on our privacy page. Fathom routes EU visitor data through EU infrastructure automatically. Read both before relying on either claim.

Can I keep Fathom and add BusinessMCP?

Yes — plenty of teams keep a simple public dashboard on Fathom and use BusinessMCP for the sales-facing questions. Both are one script tag.

How to migrate

  1. 1

Add the BusinessMCP snippet next to Fathom’s and run both for a fortnight; neither interferes with the other.

  2. 2

Recreate Fathom events as goals with a lead or conversion role — names can stay the same.

  3. 3

Connect Stripe for revenue and switch on company identification on Starter.

  4. 4

Keep Fathom on the sites that only need a public dashboard; move the ones with a sales motion.
