The full picture

Smithery is where MCP servers get found and, increasingly, hosted. Browsing and installing is free, listing a server is free, and hosting runs on a Hobby tier (free, 50,000 RPCs a month), a $10/month Pay-as-you-Go tier (100,000 RPCs and 100 namespaces, with $10 of credit that then meters at $0.10 per 1,000 RPCs) and a Custom tier with an uptime SLA. It manages OAuth and persistent connections so a remote server works in Claude or Cursor without the author running infrastructure. A June 2026 review counts the registry at 6,000+ servers.

That is a developer product, and a useful one. BusinessMCP answers a question the registry does not: what if the server you need is your own company? One hosted MCP endpoint exposes your web analytics, CRM, Stripe revenue, ad performance, SEO and social data as tools — 115 of them — alongside the tools you have connected (GitHub, Slack, Notion, HubSpot and the rest) and any upstream MCP servers you already run. Every key is issued under an access policy, and the endpoint plugs into Claude.ai or ChatGPT over OAuth 2.1.

If you want to publish a server, use Smithery. If you want your business to be queryable by an AI without writing a server, keep reading.

Why teams switch

No server to write

Smithery hosts a server you built. BusinessMCP is the server: install the tracking script, connect Stripe and your tools, and get_analytics, get_attribution, list_contacts, get_ads_stats and get_seo_insights answer from your own data the same day.

Governance that a registry cannot give you

A hosted community server has whatever permissions its author coded. A BusinessMCP key runs under a policy — Read-only, No revenue, No contact PII, Analytics-only, No-send, or custom on Enterprise — enforced at execution and redacted from output. Sending email is approval-gated. That is what makes it safe to hand a key to an outside agent.

Your own servers, aggregated

Servers you already run (including ones you found on Smithery) can be connected as upstreams; the gateway registers their tools as ext_<server>_<tool> on the same endpoint under the same policy. The SSRF guard that decides which hosts the gateway will talk to is published under MIT.

Priced on your business, not on RPCs

Smithery meters hosted traffic in RPCs past the free 50,000 a month. BusinessMCP plans are priced on visitors, events and AI runs; reads through the endpoint from your own Claude or ChatGPT are unmetered on every plan, Free included.

Smithery prices are from smithery.ai/pricing on 2026-09-15 (the page is rendered client-side; the plan cards read Hobby / Pay as you Go / Custom). Smithery does not pay server authors — the same is true of BusinessMCP, which has no marketplace at all.

Where BusinessMCP is NOT the right choice

An alternatives page you can trust has to cut both ways. Honestly:

  • BusinessMCP does not host arbitrary third-party MCP servers for developers. If you want to publish a server for other people to install, or you need a catalog of community servers to plug into an agent, Composio, Smithery or Zapier MCP are the right kind of tool — we host one endpoint over your own business.
  • We have far fewer app integrations than Zapier’s 9,000+ or Composio’s 1,500+ toolkits. Our connectors cover the tools a business runs on (GitHub, Slack, Notion, HubSpot, Stripe, the ad and social platforms), and anything else has to arrive through an MCP server you connect yourself.
  • There is no marketplace and no billing for server authors. Nobody earns money by publishing to BusinessMCP, and there is no usage-based tool-call meter to monetise a server on.
  • We are a younger product than the marketplaces on this page, with a smaller community and fewer published integrations. You get a governed endpoint and direct founder support, not a catalog with thousands of entries.

Frequently asked questions

Is BusinessMCP an MCP registry like Smithery?

No. Smithery is a public registry and hosting platform for MCP servers that developers publish. BusinessMCP hosts one private endpoint over your own business data and connected tools; there is no catalog and nothing to publish.

What does Smithery cost?

Browsing, installing and listing are free. Hosting has a free Hobby tier (50,000 RPCs a month), a $10/month Pay-as-you-Go tier (100,000 RPCs, 100 namespaces, $10 of credit that then meters at $0.10 per 1,000 RPCs) and a Custom tier with an uptime SLA. Verified on smithery.ai/pricing on 2026-09-15.

Can I use a server I found on Smithery with BusinessMCP?

Yes. Connect it as an upstream MCP server and the gateway registers its tools as ext_<server>_<tool> on your endpoint, under the same key and access policy as the platform tools. Only public http(s) hosts are accepted; the SSRF guard behind that rule is open source.

Does the endpoint work in Claude.ai and ChatGPT?

Yes. BusinessMCP is an OAuth 2.1 authorization server (PKCE, dynamic client registration), so it can be added as a custom connector in Claude.ai or ChatGPT, or used with a Bearer mcph_* key from any MCP client or the CLI.

How to migrate

  1. 1

Nothing to migrate off Smithery — keep using it to find and host servers.

  2. 2

Install the BusinessMCP tracking script, connect Stripe and the tools you use, and create an mcph_* key under a Read-only policy.

  3. 3

Add the endpoint as a connector in Claude.ai or ChatGPT (OAuth 2.1), and connect any Smithery-hosted servers you rely on as upstreams so they show up as ext_* tools on the same key.

  4. 4

Run the free MCP server tester against the endpoint to confirm the advertised tool list matches the policy you chose.
