The full picture

Smartlook joined Cisco and is being retired. Cisco’s end-of-life notice sets the dates: no new subscriptions after 31 May 2026, no renewals or expansions after 31 August 2026, and the platform decommissioned on 30 September 2027, when all remaining customer data is deleted. Paid features stay available until your current term ends; after that you can use the free plan until the shutdown. Smartlook asks you to export anything you want to keep no later than 31 August 2027.

What Smartlook did well was pairing session replay with product-analytics events and funnels, on the web and inside native mobile apps, with a free tier of 3,000 sessions a month and Pro from about $55 per month. BusinessMCP covers the web half of that — rrweb replay, click and scroll heatmaps on a real DOM backdrop, deterministic rage and dead-click detection, goals and funnels — and adds what Smartlook never had: the identified company behind the session, first-party analytics and a CRM on the same script, and an AI business analyst that can read all of it. Recordings start on the $79 Growth plan.

Why teams switch

A replacement that is not on a shutdown clock

Every Smartlook customer is migrating; the question is only when. Installing a second script now means you keep replay continuity — recordings are not portable between vendors, so the only history you can carry forward is the history you start recording today.

Replay that knows the account

Smartlook identified users only when your own code called identify(). BusinessMCP does that too, and additionally resolves the visiting company from our own IP graph, so anonymous sessions still land on a company card in the CRM and hot visitors trigger a Slack or email alert.

Events, funnels and revenue in the same place

Smartlook’s events and funnels are what teams will miss most. BusinessMCP tracks goals and funnels from the same snippet, ties revenue to sessions through Stripe, and lets the AI run a cohort funnel analysis over your real goals — with the recordings of the drop-off one click away.

Real data, not a mockup

Smartlook pricing (no longer sold), broken down

Smartlook has joined Cisco. End of sale was 31 May 2026, the last renewal date was 31 August 2026, and the platform is decommissioned on 30 September 2027 (source: Cisco end-of-life notice + smartlook.com). Recordings cannot be exported into another player — plan the switch before your term ends.

PlanPriceNotes
Free (legacy)$03,000 sessions/mo, 1 month of data; usable by existing accounts until 30 Sep 2027
Pro (legacy)from ~$55/monot sold since 31 May 2026; paid features end with your current term
Enterprise (legacy)Customno renewals or expansions since 31 Aug 2026
Platform decommissioned30 Sep 2027all remaining customer data deleted; export by 31 Aug 2027

Smartlook no longer publishes a price list — its pricing page now carries the transition notice. The legacy Free and Pro figures are from published 2026 teardowns of the last public plans; the dates are from Cisco’s end-of-life announcement and smartlook.com.

Where BusinessMCP is NOT the right choice

An alternatives page you can trust has to cut both ways. Honestly:

  • Smartlook recorded native iOS and Android apps and surfaced crash reports beside replays. BusinessMCP records websites only — if your product is a mobile app, look at a mobile-first replay tool instead.
  • Smartlook’s legacy free plan covered 3,000 sessions a month. BusinessMCP recordings start on the $79 Growth plan; our free plan is analytics and CRM without recordings.
  • Retention is shorter on the cheaper plans: 7 days on Growth and 30 days on Scale. Mouseflow keeps 12 months on Premium, Crazy Egg keeps recordings for 2 years from Plus up, Hotjar keeps 365 days on paid. Only our $499 Business plan keeps recordings indefinitely.
  • We do not ship surveys, feedback widgets, NPS polls, live chat or funnel-in-replay reports. If your workflow is "watch the session, then ask the visitor why", you will still need a survey tool.
  • We are a younger tool with fewer integrations, and our sampling controls are simpler than FullStory-class segmentation. You get analytics, CRM and one AI over all of it in the same product — but not a decade of replay-specific polish.

Frequently asked questions

When exactly does Smartlook shut down?

Cisco’s end-of-life notice gives three dates: end of sale on 31 May 2026, end of renewals on 31 August 2026, and platform decommissioning on 30 September 2027, when remaining customer data is deleted. Paid features last until your current subscription ends; the free plan remains usable until the shutdown.

Can I export my Smartlook recordings into BusinessMCP?

No, and not into any other tool either. Replays are stored as a vendor-specific DOM-event stream. What exports are segment and funnel definitions, event names and aggregate CSVs. Start recording with the replacement as early as you can so you are not left without history.

Does BusinessMCP record mobile apps like Smartlook?

No. BusinessMCP records websites (including web views) with rrweb. Smartlook’s native iOS and Android SDKs have no equivalent here; teams recording a native app should evaluate a mobile-first replay product.

How much does BusinessMCP cost compared with Smartlook Pro?

Smartlook Pro started around $55 per month before sales ended. BusinessMCP recordings start on the $79 Growth plan (3,000 unique visitors, 7-day history) which also includes first-party analytics, company identification, CRM and the AI business analyst; Scale ($199) keeps 30 days and adds the CRO engine; Business ($499) keeps recordings indefinitely.

Is there a free replay option?

Not from BusinessMCP — our free plan is analytics and CRM without recordings. Microsoft Clarity is free with unlimited recordings if cost is the only criterion; our comparison is linked below.

How to migrate

  1. 1

Install the BusinessMCP snippet now, while Smartlook still runs — recordings are stored as compressed DOM-event streams and cannot be imported by another player, so history only starts when the new script does.

  2. 2

Export what Smartlook lets you export before your paid term ends and no later than 31 August 2027: segment definitions, funnel steps, event names and CSV aggregates.

  3. 3

Recreate your Smartlook events as BusinessMCP goals (the tracker autocaptures form submits, outbound clicks and scroll depth; custom events are one mcph.track call) and rebuild funnels over them.

  4. 4

If your code called Smartlook’s identify(), switch the call to mcph.identify(email, traits) so recordings keep linking to known users — and let the IP graph name the companies behind the anonymous ones.
