The full picture

Hotjar no longer exists as a standalone product. hotjar.com/pricing permanently redirects to contentsquare.com/pricing, where the old Observe, Ask and Engage plans have become Contentsquare’s Free, Growth, Pro and Enterprise tiers. The free plan is genuinely generous — up to 200,000 sessions a month with one month of data — and Growth starts at $49/month billed annually. The catch is that the Growth price scales with session volume, replay access on Growth is two months, and once you want unlimited sessions or longer replay history the answer is “Let’s talk”.

BusinessMCP comes at replay from the other direction. Recordings and heatmaps run on the same cookieless script as your web analytics and CRM, so a replay is never an anonymous blob: it links to the identified person or the company we resolved from the visitor’s IP, and the same tool that shows you a rage click can tell you the account it belongs to. Replay starts on the $79 Growth plan; on Scale the friction it finds turns into a proposed A/B test whose variant the AI implements as a GitHub pull request.

Why teams switch

A recording with a name on it

Hotjar shows you what happened; BusinessMCP also shows you who. Because replay, analytics and the CRM share one identity graph, a session from an identified visitor opens against their contact record, and an anonymous B2B session carries the company our IP graph resolved — roughly 20–35% of B2B visits. That turns “someone rage-clicked pricing” into “Acme’s CTO rage-clicked pricing”.

One bill instead of three product lines

Contentsquare split the old Hotjar into Experience Analytics, Voice of Customer and Product Analytics, each priced separately. BusinessMCP’s Growth plan bundles replay, heatmaps, cookieless analytics, company identification and CRM for $79/month — you lose surveys, but you stop paying for analytics twice.

Friction becomes a test, not a ticket

On Scale, the same deterministic engine that flags dead clicks, rage clicks and buried CTAs ranks them by impact, proposes an A/B test with a hypothesis, and the AI opens a pull request implementing the variant. Hotjar stops at the observation.

Cookieless by default

Hotjar sets its own cookies and leaves consent to you. BusinessMCP’s script is cookieless and consent-aware: in gated modes, recording simply waits until consent is granted, and bots are dropped at ingest so your click maps are humans only.

Real data, not a mockup

Hotjar (Contentsquare) pricing, broken down

Hotjar merged into Contentsquare and its pricing page redirects there; plan names, session bands and the Growth price are Contentsquare’s as of September 2026 and are still being reshuffled. Re-check before you budget.

Sources: contentsquare.com/pricing (the page hotjar.com/pricing redirects to) plus two 2026 teardowns for the legacy tiers. Published teardowns put the Growth plan at up to ~$739/mo at 200k sessions; surveys (Voice of Customer) are a separate subscription.

Where BusinessMCP is NOT the right choice

An alternatives page you can trust has to cut both ways. Honestly:

  • There is no free replay tier. Microsoft Clarity is free forever with no traffic limit and Contentsquare (Hotjar) records up to 200k sessions a month for $0; BusinessMCP recordings start on the $79 Growth plan with 7-day retention.
  • Our replay retention is shorter unless you are on Business. Growth keeps 7 days and Scale 30; keeping recordings for the life of the account is a $499/mo feature, and raw heatmap events expire at 30 days on every plan. Contentsquare Growth keeps 13 months of data access, and FullStory Free keeps 12 months.
  • We do not ship surveys, feedback widgets, NPS or funnel-in-replay reports. Hotjar, Lucky Orange and Mouseflow bundle those; with us, a survey tool is a separate purchase.
  • Replays capture the DOM, not the console or network. FullStory and Smartlook record JS errors and requests alongside the session; if engineers are your main replay audience, that matters.
  • We are a younger product with fewer integrations and coarser sampling controls than FullStory’s segment-based capture rules, and there is no native mobile-app SDK — web only.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hotjar still available, or is it Contentsquare now?

Hotjar merged into Contentsquare and hotjar.com/pricing now redirects to Contentsquare’s pricing page. The plans on offer are Contentsquare’s Free, Growth, Pro and Enterprise; the old Observe/Ask/Engage tiers are legacy and no longer sold to new customers.

How does BusinessMCP’s price compare with Hotjar’s?

Contentsquare has a free plan with up to 200k sessions and a Growth plan from $49/month billed annually that scales with volume. BusinessMCP recordings start on the $79/month Growth plan, which also includes cookieless analytics, company identification and a CRM. If you only want replay and your volume fits the free tier, Contentsquare is cheaper.

Does BusinessMCP have surveys or feedback widgets like Hotjar Ask?

No. We ship replay, heatmaps, frustration detection, AI analysis and — on Scale — A/B tests. Surveys, NPS and feedback polls are not part of the product; keep a survey tool if you rely on them.

How long are recordings kept?

Seven days on Growth, 30 days on Scale and unlimited on Business. Contentsquare’s Growth plan offers two months of replay access with 13 months of data, so if long replay history matters and you are not on our Business plan, that is a real difference.

Can I see which company a recording belongs to?

Yes — that is the point of running replay on the same script as analytics and CRM. Identified visitors open against their contact; anonymous B2B sessions carry the company resolved from IP (about 20–35% of B2B visits), and the recordings list can be filtered to identified sessions only.

How to migrate

  1. 1

Install the BusinessMCP script alongside Hotjar — both are one snippet and they do not conflict.

  2. 2

Enable heatmaps + recordings in the Overview → Heatmaps tab and pick a sampling rate; recordings appear within minutes.

  3. 3

Run both for a week and compare what each flags on your top three pages; BusinessMCP’s rage and dead-click definitions are deterministic, so counts will differ from Hotjar’s.

  4. 4

Export any surveys or feedback you still need from Contentsquare before cancelling — BusinessMCP does not replace those.
