The full picture

ManyChat is the reference product for “comment a keyword, get a DM”. It is mature, it is cheap to start, and since 2 March 2026 it is sold in five tiers priced by active contacts: Free (25 contacts, two channels, four automations, ManyChat branding), Essential at $17/month, Pro at $39/month, Business at $99/month and Advanced at $199/month billed monthly — about 18–30% less on annual billing — with per-contact overage above each cap. Pro and up add WhatsApp, SMS and email, a visual flow builder, broadcasts and Manychat AI.

BusinessMCP does the same Instagram and Facebook trigger over the same Meta Graph API: a keyword in a comment fires one private reply within Meta’s 7-day window and a DM inside the 24-hour messaging window, once per comment, with a daily cap and an approval queue if you want one. The difference is what happens to the person. In ManyChat they become a subscriber in ManyChat’s inbox. In BusinessMCP they become a contact in your own CRM — if they have visited your website, their pages and sessions are already on the record — and their reply promotes them to a lead the same way a website form or an email reply does.

That makes this a fair comparison only for a specific reader: a business that wants social comments to feed the same pipeline as its website, not a creator who wants the richest chat automation for the least money. For the second reader, ManyChat wins, and this page says where.

Why teams switch

The commenter is a contact, not a subscriber

ManyChat’s unit is a subscriber in ManyChat. BusinessMCP’s unit is a contact in your CRM: the same record that holds their website journey, their emails, their meetings and, through Stripe, what they have paid. A DM reply promotes them to a lead; nothing has to be exported to find out who bought.

The web journey is already there

When someone who commented on a post has also visited your site, the identity graph stitches the two — pages, sessions, goals, source channel. ManyChat sees the chat; a CRM built on first-party analytics sees the visit before and the purchase after.

An approval queue, if you want one

Each rule runs manual, assisted or autonomous. In assisted mode every DM waits in a queue for a human to send; in autonomous mode it goes out on match. Keyword matching is word-boundary (“guide” does not match “guidelines”), and a rule with no keywords cannot fire on every comment by accident.

One report from comment to revenue

The social report shows comments, matched, sent, replied, leads and the lifetime value of the contacts messaged — labelled as lifetime value, not attributed revenue, because we will not claim a DM caused a sale it did not.

manychat.com/pricing blocks automated fetches, so these figures are taken from two published teardowns updated in August and September 2026 (linked in Sources), which agree on every number. ManyChat’s pricing page opens on annual rates; the monthly prices above are month-to-month. Accounts created before 2 March 2026 may still see the legacy Pro-by-contacts model with separate AI and Inbox add-ons.

Where BusinessMCP is NOT the right choice

An alternatives page you can trust has to cut both ways. Honestly:

  • Our comment-to-DM automation is new and lightly battle-tested. ManyChat has run this exact flow in production for years, at a scale we have not seen yet; if you need a proven tool today for a large account, that history counts.
  • We have no visual flow builder, no broadcasts, no drip sequences, and no WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS or email channels. A rule here is a keyword, a private reply and a DM — if you want multi-step conversational flows or a broadcast list, ManyChat is the better product.
  • No e-commerce integrations. ManyChat plugs into shop and payment flows; BusinessMCP records revenue from Stripe into the CRM but does not sell inside the chat.
  • Meta’s messaging permissions go through app review, so setup is not the instant connect ManyChat offers as an established Meta partner. Until that review is complete, the Instagram and Facebook steps depend on it.
  • Growth is $79/month. ManyChat starts free (25 active contacts) and its Essential tier is $17/month; if comment-to-DM is the only thing you need, we are the more expensive way to get it — you are paying for the analytics, CRM and recordings that come with it.

Frequently asked questions

Does BusinessMCP do the same comment-to-DM trigger as ManyChat?

For Instagram and Facebook, yes: a keyword in a comment triggers one private reply (within Meta’s 7-day window) and a DM inside the 24-hour messaging window, over the same Meta Graph API ManyChat uses. LinkedIn and TikTok are assisted — the draft is written, you copy it and open the post — because those platforms do not sanction automated DMs.

How much does ManyChat cost?

Since 2 March 2026: Free with 25 active contacts; Essential $17/month (250 contacts); Pro $39/month (2,500); Business $99/month (7,500); Advanced $199/month (25,000), all billed monthly, with annual billing roughly 18–30% lower and per-contact overage above each cap. Elite is invite-only. Figures from two September 2026 teardowns, because manychat.com/pricing blocks automated fetches.

Why is BusinessMCP more expensive than ManyChat for DMs?

Because the DM automation is one feature of the $79 Growth plan, which also carries cookieless web analytics, the CRM, company identification, heatmaps and session recordings. If you only want comment-to-DM, ManyChat’s free or $17 tiers are the cheaper way to get it, and we say so.

Where do the contacts live?

In your BusinessMCP CRM, as contacts you can export, email, tag and score. A commenter starts at the visitor stage — a viral post does not dump thousands of rows into your pipeline — and becomes a lead when they reply. If they have visited your website, their journey is already attached.

Do I need Meta app review to use it?

The Instagram and Facebook messaging permissions are granted through Meta’s app review, so the automated send depends on that being complete for the workspace; until then the rules can be built and DMs handled from the queue. ManyChat, as an established Meta partner, connects immediately — that is a real advantage and we list it under our cons.

How to migrate

  1. 1

Keep ManyChat running while you connect Instagram and Facebook to BusinessMCP — the two do not conflict on the same page as long as only one rule answers a given keyword.

  2. 2

Recreate your keyword rules in the Social tab under Automations, starting in assisted mode so every DM waits for approval until you trust the matching.

  3. 3

Install the tracking script if it is not already on your site; commenters who visit are stitched to their journey from that point on.

  4. 4

Once the Meta app review for your workspace is complete, switch the rules you trust to autonomous and retire the ManyChat duplicate.
