The Apollo alternative that starts from your website, not a database

The full picture

Apollo.io is the default answer to "where do I get a list": a database the company puts at 210M+ contacts, a Chrome extension, a sequencer, a dialer, and — since 2026 — AI research and messaging layered on top. Published pricing is genuinely self-serve: Free, then Basic at $49, Professional at $79 and Organization at $119 per user per month on annual billing ($59, $99 and $149 monthly, with a three-seat minimum on Organization). For a team that already knows exactly who to email, it is a lot of tool for the money.

The catch is the design center. Apollo is cold-first: it starts from the database and works outward, so every Apollo seat is competing for the same inboxes as every other Apollo seat, and reply rates on that kind of list sit at 1–3%. BusinessMCP starts from the one list Apollo cannot see — the companies already visiting your website — identifies them, scores their intent from real behaviour, and works those accounts first before filling capacity with ICP discovery from our own 34M-company database. The AI SDR ships on the $199/month Scale plan (300 prospects a month), month-to-month, with cookieless analytics, a CRM and a booking link included rather than sold as three more subscriptions.

Why teams switch

A signal Apollo does not have

Apollo’s intent data is third-party topic intent bought in bulk. BusinessMCP’s intent is first-party and deterministic: this company viewed your pricing page twice this week. The SDR references what the account actually did, which is why warm outreach runs at multiples of cold-list reply rates.

Per-seat pricing vs. one flat plan

Apollo bills per user, so a five-person team on Professional is $395–$495 a month before anyone buys extra credits — and Organization carries a three-seat minimum. BusinessMCP’s Scale plan is $199 a month for the workspace, with five seats included and the meter on prospects contacted, not on who logs in.

Guardrails by default, not by discipline

Apollo gives you sending limits and a deliverability dashboard; whether you respect them is up to you. BusinessMCP enforces them: 200 emails per day per domain, a ~10-day warmup ramp, verified-address-only autonomous sends, business-hours windows in the prospect’s time zone, automatic bounce and complaint suppression, and one-click unsubscribe on every message.

The whole loop in one place

With Apollo you still buy web analytics, visitor identification, a CRM and a booking tool elsewhere and wire them together. BusinessMCP ships all of it stitched: an identified visitor’s journey flows into the SDR’s context, the reply lands in the same CRM timeline, and the booking link drops the meeting into your calendar.

Apollo.io pricing, broken down

Apollo has repackaged its credit allowances more than once in 2026 (per-plan monthly credits vs. annual up-front pools); the seat prices above are stable across the teardowns we opened, the credit maths is not — check the live page for the current allowance.

PlanPriceNotes
Free$0basic search, 2 sequences, capped credits and daily sends
Basic$49/user/mo (annual)$59–$65/user/mo billed monthly, depending on the teardown’s date
Professional$79/user/mo (annual)$99/user/mo billed monthly; adds the dialer and AI features
Organization$119/user/mo (annual)$149/user/mo billed monthly; 3-seat minimum (~$357/mo floor)
Add-onsCredits + datamobile numbers, exports and intent are credit-metered on top of the seat

Where BusinessMCP is NOT the right choice

An alternatives page you can trust has to cut both ways. Honestly:

  • Apollo’s database is an order of magnitude larger than ours: 210M+ claimed contacts against our 34M companies and roughly 1.9M people. If your ICP is narrow and cold, Apollo will simply have more names.
  • No dialer, no phone numbers and no mobile credits — Apollo’s calling stack is real and we do not have one.
  • Email is our only fully automated channel and we do not A/B test subject lines; Apollo runs subject-line variants and multi-channel task sequences out of the box.
  • We do not rotate sends across a pool of mailboxes — the 200-per-day domain cap is deliberate, so a team built around volume will find Apollo (or a dedicated sender like Smartlead) more accommodating.
  • We are a younger product than most tools on this page. You get faster iteration and direct founder support, but a smaller integration marketplace than a 10-year-old incumbent.
  • If you only want a raw contact database to export CSVs from, a data vendor is a better fit — BusinessMCP is built around acting on your own website traffic.

Frequently asked questions

Is BusinessMCP a replacement for Apollo’s database?

No, and it does not try to be. Apollo is a database with a sequencer; BusinessMCP is an outreach loop that starts from your own traffic and fills the gaps from a smaller database of 34M companies. If the browsable database is the thing you use every day, keep Apollo. If what you want is meetings from the accounts already showing intent, that is our job.

What does Apollo actually cost per month?

Seats run $49 (Basic), $79 (Professional) and $119 (Organization) per user per month on annual billing, or roughly $59–$65, $99 and $149 billed monthly; Organization requires three seats. Mobile numbers, exports and intent data are credit-metered on top, and Apollo has changed the credit packaging more than once in 2026.

Can I use Apollo and BusinessMCP together?

Yes. Some teams keep an Apollo seat for cold list research and run BusinessMCP for identification, warm outreach and the CRM. The overlap is the sequencer — avoid running both against the same accounts, or suppression discipline gets hard.

Does Apollo have an API, and how does it compare with the BusinessMCP Data API?

Yes. Apollo’s API is available across its plans, with per-team rate limits set by plan — 600 calls a day per endpoint on Free, 2,000 on Basic and Professional, 6,000 on Organization, according to Apollo’s API docs in September 2026 — and enrichment calls spend the same credits as your seats (a 2026 teardown puts an email reveal at 1 credit and a phone number at 8). Apollo also runs an official MCP server for paid plans. The BusinessMCP Data API is a separate pay-per-call product with no seat (1,000 free credits/mo · then $2.00 per 1,000): company lookup charged only when a company is found, company search, IP to company, email formats and domain-level email checks. Our people tools cover fewer regions than Apollo’s database and there is no phone data.

Which should a developer use for enrichment calls — Apollo’s API or the Data API?

If your team already pays for Apollo seats and needs contact emails and phone numbers at volume, Apollo’s API is the natural choice. If you need company firmographics, IP to company or email-format and domain checks from code or an agent without buying a seat, the Data API fits better — see the company data APIs comparison for the wider field.

Does BusinessMCP make calls or automate LinkedIn?

Neither. Outreach is automated on email only; LinkedIn steps are drafted for you and sent with one click, deliberately. Apollo’s dialer and LinkedIn task automation are genuine advantages if those channels drive your pipeline.

How to migrate

  1. 1

Install the BusinessMCP tracking script first — a week of traffic gives the SDR a warm-account list before you cancel a seat.

  2. 2

Export the contacts you have already sequenced from Apollo and import them by email so suppression picks them up and nobody is double-touched.

  3. 3

Recreate your Apollo saved searches as plain-English ICP targeting in Settings → Sales; discovery and enrichment fill the cold half.

  4. 4

Run the SDR in assisted mode for a cycle beside your Apollo sequences and compare reply rates on the same ICP before switching sends over.
