Frontend Design
Designby anthropics
3/3 audits passApache-2.0
Guidance for distinctive, intentional visual design when building new UI or reshaping an existing one. Helps with aesthetic direction, typography, and making choices that don't read as templated defaults.
Frontend Design is Anthropic's skill (publisher anthropics, Apache-2.0) for giving new or reshaped UI a deliberate, distinctive visual direction instead of templated defaults. It has the agent ground each design in the subject matter, audience and primary job, choose typefaces and a type scale on purpose, and treat structure such as borders, numbering and labels as information rather than decoration. It lists current tells of generated design to avoid unless the brief asks for them, such as a warm cream background with a terracotta accent, identical rounded SaaS cards and tracked-out all-caps eyebrow labels. The process is two passes: draft a compact token plan (4-6 named colors, type roles, an ASCII layout concept and principles), review it against the brief and revise anything generic, then build. It closes with restraint and self-critique, a quality floor (responsive, keyboard focus, reduced motion, accessible colour) and guidance on writing interface copy.
Use it when building landing pages, apps or components that should not look like every other generated page. The brief's own words always win, including when it asks for one of the listed looks.
It is mainly for coding agents such as Claude Code that write the front-end code; importing it into BusinessMCP is possible but adds little to business-data work.
What you can do with it
- Design a landing page with a distinct visual identity
- Draft a colour and type token plan before coding
- Critique a UI for generic generated-design tells
- Write clearer button labels, errors and empty states
Run it on your business data
Imported into BusinessMCP, Frontend Design becomes a playbook your AI business analyst applies to your pages’ heatmaps and session replays.

Frequently asked questions
What does Frontend Design tell the agent to avoid?
Default treatments that read as generated, such as accenting one word in a headline, all-caps labels, identical rounded cards with the same soft shadow, and decorative numbered markers on content that is not a sequence, unless the brief asks for them.
Does it override my own design brief?
No. The skill states that where the brief pins down a visual direction the agent follows it exactly.
